Blowouts!™ Using Journals for Poetry, Creative Writing, Living,
Reflections & How to Edit Your Life (in various forms)
Originally designed to show participants how to 'dump' their thoughts onto paper,
eventually being able to cull whole paragraphs and effective character
development, themes and ideas for poetry, the workshop has grown to
show participants how to revise and reshape their lives. This simple
vehicle demonstrates how journal writing (using formats and exercises
from Ira Progoff's Intensive Journal, Tristine Rainer's The New Diary
and, John Gardener's On Becoming a Novelist) can assist participants
to articulate ideas in their everyday lives. This workshop was also
used to show how journal keeping can be used as an assessment tool for
work-study students.
